Parents' Information

Our relationship with parents is very important - the better that we work together the more our children learn and enjoy school. If you would like to know more about any aspect of the school or your child's education please ask your child's teacher, or speak to the Headteacher. We will be happy to help.

In this section you will find documents and links that that may be of use to you in finding out more about our school. If you wish any more detailed information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In addition to the information here you will receive regular letters and reports from the school. You will receive:
  - Termly curriculum plans for your child’s learning
- Guidance and targets on maths and reading
- Regular newsletters
- Annual reports

Thinking of sending your child to Littlehaven?

If you are choosing a school for your child please be sure to look around Littlehaven. Call the school office on 01403 260608 to arrange a time to visit. We will show you around the school, you can meet the staff and we will answer any questions that you may have.

Parents of current children

You will have several opportunities to meet with your child’s teacher during the year to discuss their progress, but if you would like to know more about the school, or your child’s development please just ask – we will be delighted to help you.

We encourage parents to become involved – so if you would like to help in some way, either as a governor or on the PTA let us know.

Bi-weekly Newsletter from the Headteacher

Monday 19th July 2010

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have almost arrived at the end of another academic year.  It is always an emotional time for us, as we say ‘good-bye’ to our Year 2 pupils.  It has been a pleasure working with the 40 young people, and we feel so proud of their achievements.  We hope that they will each settle happily into their next schools and wish them every success in their futures.  We also have to say ‘Good-bye’ to a few other pupils and their families moving out of this area.  We also wish them good luck for the future.   Finally we have to say a fond farewell to a number of parents who have supported this school for a number of years as their children have gone through Littlehaven.  We are grateful to you all for your contribution to this school, whether as members of Friends of Littlehaven, voucher counters, book-sorters, reading volunteers or whatever you have done to help the school.

Year 2 Performance

We hope you enjoyed the children’s performance as much as they enjoyed performing to you!  We would like to thank Steve Piggott for accompanying the children, Mr and Mrs Cocken for making the marvellous whale, and Mrs Boulton and Mrs Oakley for looking after the crèche children on Wednesday.

Parking outside school

I understand from a number of parents, that parking outside the school is very difficult, and that pedestrians are struggling to find safe places to cross the road.  It would be very helpful if everyone left the yellow zig-zag lines empty and a similar length of road empty on the opposite side of the road.  This would allow more visibility for pedestrians and drivers alike.

Playtime poster competition

We have received lots of entries for this competition as most children have chosen to complete the entries at school.  Judging will take place early next term.

Token update

We have submitted our Tesco and Sainsbury’s orders, so should receive a wide range of equipment (including a huge range of playtime games/toys and equipment to support the curriculum).

New Parent Governors

We welcome three new parent governors: Tony Brigden, Joanne Smith and Helen Oakley.

Hot Meals

Don't forget to order your hotmeals meals for next term.   If want a meal on the first day back you need to have ordered by Friday 20th August by phone 0845 603 7998or Sunday 22nd August on the website www.westsussex.mealselector.co.uk

If you would like to enter the Sussex Day food competition, you will need to get your entries into school by 9am on 23rd July, or send your entries to Sussex Day Competition, Chartwells, Manor Farm Barns, Selsey Road, Donnington, Chichester, West Sussex PO20 7PL, by  31st August 2010.  If you have lost the entry form or would like more details go to the website www.westsussex.mealselector.co.uk

Please remember to change your child's class details on Chartwells website and if they are changing schools please remember to change the school on the website too.  Please note that the transfer of free school meals to junior school has already been organised.

Holiday Club information from St Mary’s Church

St. Mary’s Church Parish Office have asked us to let you know that they will be running a summer holiday club ‘Rocky’s Plaice’ from Monday 2nd August until Friday 6th August, at a cost of £7.50 per child.  We have a few application forms in the entrance hall, but further forms can be collected from the Parish Office in The Causeway.

The school will close on Friday 23rd July at 2pm for the summer holidays, and re-open on Thursday 2nd September at 8.50am for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.  Reception pupils will start school on Monday 6th September.

Do not forget, if you have any queries or concern, please come to see me or a member of staff.

Finally, on behalf of the staff, I thank you all for your continued support and wish you a very pleasant, enjoyable holiday.

Yours sincerely,

S. White

Friday 2nd July 2010

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Year 2 pupils had a very informative and enjoyable trip to Pagham Harbour.  The children were very well behaved.  We would like to thank the parents who accompanied us on this trip.

Thank you to Friends of Littlehaven for organising another fantastic summer fair, which made a profit of £1700.  Thanks to all parents who helped with setting up, manning stalls and clearing up afterwards.

A very big thank you to everyone who bought books at the book fair this week.  We raised a fantastic £433 which meant we could spend the same amount in books for the school.

We have all enjoyed reading the children's take-away task: Memories.  The children loved sharing their memories with their classes.  Thank you for encouraging or helping your child to take part.

Playtime poster competition

For a number of years we have been using laminated paper posters to display our playtime rules.  They usually last only about six months.  To overcome this, we have decided to have some more permanent displays made.  Rather than using downloaded pictures, we would love to have the children’s own designs on these signs.  Your child will be offered a poster to design and will have one or more sheets that they have chosen.  All entries will need to be handed in by Monday 19th July.

Token update

Sainsbury vouchers – thank you to Mrs Male for counting these – we are still counting!

Crèche for Year 2 performance – Thursday 15th July

We would like to be able to offer a crèche to the parents of children in Year 2 who have pre-school brothers or sisters.  If you would be able to help run a crèche, please let Mrs Deacon or Miss Thompson know (in the school office).

School closure on Monday (5th July)

The school will be closed to pupils on Monday whilst staff training takes place.  This is the last Inset Day of the term.

Sports Day Wednesday 7th July – starting from 1.30pm

You are welcome to join us for the children’s Sports Day.  You may arrive from 1.15pm and wait on the field.  Please ensure there is a gap between the lanes and your chairs (and try to keep younger children off the lanes during the races – difficult I know!)  If the weather is wet, we will move the sports day to our reserve date (see dates) but will not make a decision until the morning of sports day.

Reminder – Young Writers

If you have received a Copyright/Permission form (which also contains an order form), please note that this form must be signed and returned directly to Young Writers by 9th July 2010 for your child's work to be published.   Work cannot be published without your permission.

Lost Raincoat

Has anyone found a dark grey Peter Storm raincoat?  It is named (Joshua Gardner) and was last seen approximately two to three weeks ago.

Jack and Jill Adventure Klub

Jack and Jill Pre-school will be running holiday sessions for children aged 2-8 years on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout August, at Littlehaven school.  If you would like further information or would like to make a booking, please either contact Diane Shanley at Jack and Jill on 01403 258994 or e-mail jackandjill@wsgfl.org.uk or jack.jillps@hotmail.co.uk, alternatively you can pick up a leaflet in the school entrance lobby.

If you have any queries, comments or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

S. White
